Frozen product reviews

A typical day on the slopes turns into a chilling nightmare for three snowboarders when they get stranded on the chairlift before their last run. As the ski patrol switches off the night lights, they realize with growing panic that they've been left behind dangling high off the round with no way down.

With the resort closed until the following weekend and frostbite and hypothermia already setting in, the trio is forced to take desperate measures to escape off the mountain before they freeze to death. Once they make their move, they discover with horror that they have much more to fear than just the frigid cold. As they combat unexpected obstacles, they start to question if their will to survive is strong enough to overcome the worst ways to die.

I was quite excited when I first read the blurb about this movie... but within 20 minutes I realised that unless the plot picked up pretty soon, I wasn't going to get a full-on tension-fueled drama thriller...

The plot is almost elegant in it's simplicity... basically some young friends try to buck the system, get themselves into a jam, a series of bad timings leaves them in dire peril, and they have to find a way to beat the odds and survive.

One is a plucky 'all-balls-no-brains' type, one is a bit of a 'senstive enabler' and the third is a typical 'ditsy emotionally-unstable damsel-in-distress'... and of course that makes for some seriously dreary dialogue when the three of them are stuck hanging 20m above the snow with nothing to do but try and pass time in the hopes of a rescue.

Overall... the movie has hints and overtones of a number of other movies... eg. the 'wolf attack' from "The Day After Tomorrow", but ultimately didn't really live up to it's potential, despite a couple of rather implied-gory scenes giving it a bit of a taste of the nasty reality of life. I would have really loved to have seen it perform to it's best, but alas, a good - but not great - evening time-waster.
