Now this is something to put on when you are feeling a little too full of your own self-importance. its a real ego-shrinker with no excuses and no pandering to the vanity we all hold within us. Humans are, in the greater scheme of things, far more of a destructive influence on this planet and our potential for disaster far outweighs any 'manifest destiny' we feel we have. This doco, though utterly hypothetical and full of speculation, does point to the realisation that even our mightiest achievements can be destroyed by the forces of nature in a relatively short (by geologic standards) period of time by even the most tiny of critters.
My humanity is intact enough to want to have pride in the power of our minds and the dexterity of our opposable thumbs, but even so I see how much damage we are doing and I too have wondered "would the planet be better off if we simply sat down and died?"
This thought is explored in great detail throughout this documentary. With snippets of interviews with people of all walks of life, including sci-fi authors, engineers and scientists from a wide range of fields, there is information and thought provoking stuff in here for everyone.
I cant really go into a lot of detail as there was simply too much to take in. Information compressed to such a high degree doesnt lend itself to casual summarising but what I can say is that if you are a thoughtful person and want an idea of what you can do to help ease the burden we are placing on the planet, or just need a bit of a reailty-check to remind you of your real place on the tree of life, then this is something you should watch.
