Review #22719 - Dated: 9th of April, 2023 Author: mizim |
The Quacks of Quedlinburg is a game I had heard a lot of good things about but I was never able to find any in stock, or it would be out of stock before I had the money to spend on it. Finally I was able to get a copy and it has quickly made it into my top five games. While a good portion of this is push your luck, there is still a bit of strategy to it as you decide what tokens to buy to add to your bag. Everyone starts with the same tokens which includes the very irritating white tokens. Your droplet starts at zero and each token gets placed after it, how far along depends on the number on the token. However... if your white tokens end up totalling over 7, you explode and stop placing tokens. Otherwise you can choose to stop and not push your luck any further.
Once all players have stopped you run through a list of end of round abilities, points and buy more tokens (unless you exploded, then you pick tokens or points). Each token, other than white and orange, have their own abilities which affect other tokens that you place following it - most of the tokens also have four different ways in what their powers could be, which means good variables for more interesting games. Your pot is also double sided, giving another way to play if you feel like a change. The main problem with this game is that if a player manages to get a large lead, they generally get to keep it. But this is a really enjoyable game and I can't wait to get the expansion.
