The spark of life is about to jump from your hands to spread out in the world. Deploy your mountain ranges and your deserts, spread out your oceans and your glaciers. Handle wisely your continents to form environments suitable for the apparition of animal life and maybe you'll manage to create the most densely populated planet!

In Planet, each player receives a planet core without anything on it. Each turn, players choose a tile with mountain/ice/forest/desert on it and place it on the planet. Then the player who fulfills the most conditions for the appearance of certain animals gains its card.

I happened upon Planet when it came into my work. Looking at it, I wasn't too sure about it and did a quick check online to see what the reviews were like. After looking at those and remembering my work discount, I decided to grab myself a copy. The base to this game is like no other game currently in my possession, you each get a 'globe' (each side is flat, so not a proper globe) and the aim is to strategically fill each of the empty spaces. The tiles to go on your planet are magnetic, giving you that 3D effect of holding a 'globe' and fitting the pieces in, in such a way that can help you gain the animal cards which gain you points.

Each player gets a turn and picking their tile first, a great way to ensure it is equal opportunities. The animal cards you are hoping to collect, are face up, giving you a chance to try and plan your tiles so you can gain them. Once your tile is placed you can't move it. You are allowed to look at the other players worlds but that isn't something any of us have bothered with yet. Working out who got the card, took a little trial and error for the first couple of games but that didn't put us off. There is also an option for a slightly harder game, in which each played gets one card, in secret, which shows them a certain ecosystem, the more triangles of that they have at the end, bonus points may happen.

We've really enjoyed this game and its uniqueness, just don't drop your world or it will all fall to pieces.
