I almost had to break up a few tense arguments between my boys as both said I got this for them, I had to point out that I got it to review and that the book can be shared. I put it aside as there were other products to review and when I went to read this book so I could have an opinion - it was missing, after a short panic Mr 6 admitted that he had hidden it so that his brother couldn't keep it.

I read this in about 20 minutes and thought while it doesn't appeal to me I can see why my boys like it. Mr 8 who is definitely not s beginner reader (he is reading 18 to 24 months above his age level) had a quick read. He very early said that he would have enjoyed the book a lot more if there weren't so many made up silly words (he struggled with the place names as they are non existent) but he was really excited about the possibility of finally getting to try the Merlok 2.0 app and put the book down and now I have to break up disagreements about whose turn it is on the game.

I would recommend this book to parents with kids who are struggling with their reading or kids who are moving from the short stories to a chapter book. The chapters are short so no chance of getting bored. The story is a good one even if it was easily predictable. I always encourage kids to read and if this book gets kids reading then I'm all for it. Only scored low on personal preference as both boys were so excited about getting the book but both have advanced past it.

Fright Knight was the third Nexo Knight book that we had read. Because we had already been exposed to the characters in the other two books, we already knew who each person was. However, I still feel that this book could easily be a stand-alone. You didn't have to know much about the characters going in, because they are introduced to you. You wouldn't be disadvantaged if this was your first book.

That said, if this is your third book you get to know a bit more about the characters. The book explores greatest fears and how these can be used against a person. Of course most of them seemed obvious for me because in a lot of ways the characters wear their hearts on their sleeves. However my kids didn't find it as obvious and were surprised once or twice.

This is a good chapter book for a progressing reader. The font is nice and big and the language is simplified. There are some stretch words in there around the technology. Reading it alone I knocked this out in about 30 minutes. Reading with my kids took a few days. I would expect this book to take a little while to read for a child who is starting to read chapter books.

The story has some important messages too, around fear and bravery and how you handle yourself in a crisis. It also continues to show that teamwork and unity will always be essential for success against Jestro. Let's face it, teamwork is important in any situation where you need a sum of skills outside of your own to achieve something.

On top of that you have the added bonus of a Nexo Power for the Nexo Knight game app. We have used that in the game and it was a fun addition to the other shields we have scanned. The whole Nexo Knight concept is really neat and gets a huge thumbs up, especially from Miss 9 who loves Lego and game apps.
