Wow, what a fantastic book! I have an almost four year old daughter who, like most little girls her age are obsessed with princesses. When my review package arrived she rummaged through the book and her eyes lit up immediately when she spotted it. She could tell me exactly what the book must have been about by the bold and bright picture on the front - princess with a crown.

I really loved the simplistic illustrations in this book. The pages were not cram packed with pictures as there was only a couple on each page which made it easier for a younger child to work out what the story line was. My daughter is too young to read but she could easily look at the pictures and tell me what the princess was doing and how the wee girl was feeling by the looks on their faces. The length of the book was really good also, it didn't drag on and it was quite straight to the point with the dialogue.

I enjoyed that there wasn't a lot of words so I could talk to my daughter and discuss about what was going on the whole way through the story. This also gave us room to expand on how the princess was acting and how the younger girl was feeling and perhaps why she was feeling this way. Like majority of kids books there are always morals to the story and I feel that the moral of this book was great. To me, the moral seemed that not everything you believe in is as good as you think. For example the younger girl thought that being a princess was going to be great, but once she heard from a real princess about what she had to do, it appeared the younger girl had changed her mind as to whether she wanted to be a princess and if she wanted to be one how could she do it differently.

Great book, fantastic illustrations and I think the price is really reasonable. It is a hit in our house and is getting read at least once if not twice a day.

My new favourite book! This is the cutest little book about a girl who wants to be a pretty princess but when she finds out exactly what being a pretty princess is all about she decides to make her own rules about being a pretty princess. I love everything about this book, from the pink cover, the animated drawings and the excellent use of facial expressions, all the way to the actual story line. There are speech bubbles throughout which are in a different colour for each person so you can see exactly who is talking and you can adjust your voice accordingly.

The illustrations were beautifully done and you can see the real delight/disgust/surprise/boredom in the characters faces throughout the book. None of the pages were too busy and each one had just enough to tell the story. My daughter also loved this book, she decided she'd much rather be her own type of princess too but she did say she really liked the "stuffy" princess dress better than the purple one - I guess I know what will be on her Santa list this year.

I like to find a lesson in most children's books and from this book I hope my daughter has taken away that not everything lives up the idea in your head and sometimes it's just a good idea to be who and what you want to be rather than try and live up to someone else's expectations. I really do love this book and I can see it being an excellent book for a young child as a gift. The words aren't particularly hard either so an early reader should be able to handle reading this book on their own.
