We love Mrs Rogers in our household since reviewing other products from them. We love their Himalayan rock salt, so I was excited to try this new blend smokey chipotle salt which has the Himalayan pink salt, garlic, chipotle, smoked paprika, coriander, onion, cumin and herbs. This blend sound really nice and I was looking forward to trying the mix of flavours.

I wasn't sure to start with what I was going to put this on and we were making macaroni and cheese for tea so I decided this would be a great dish to trial this on. I gave it a good covering with the smokey chipotle salt and mixed it through. I was quite surprised as I felt the chilli/chipotle flavour overtook the entire blend. I thought that the blend may have been more even and that I would get a hit of the other flavours shining through but I didn't. I do think it had a really nice kick to it which I enjoyed and it was nice to help flavour our macaroni and cheese.

I absolutely love the grinder that this product comes in. It looks very plain and it isn't cluttered branding on the grinder. The grinder is simple to use even my 3.5 year old enjoyed being able to help use it. I think the price of $8.99 is very reasonable for this product especially because you are getting a built in grinder. I am really looking forward to trying the other Mrs Rogers flavours.

A few weeks ago we purchased the pepper in this range because of the way it looked at the supermarket. It was fantastic to see this come up for review, as I was already enjoying the pepper that I had purchased. I have never tried pink salt before and was looking forward to getting to try this.

I first used this on the crunchy roast potato cubes that we make. (Throw cubed potatoes in to a hot oiled dish and cook at around 200). There was more chilli than I had anticipated in the salt and it made a lovely addition on the potato dish that we had with chicken.

The next night I attempted a side dish of corn with the relish that we also received to review. I heated butter in the pan and added onion and fried this for a couple of minutes. Then I added the frozen corn and cooked it until it was nicely coloured then added the relish and salt. It ended up too spicy for the children, however it was a great combination for adults and a great way to do corn.

It was a little bit disappointed in the product as it states it is a blend of Himalayan pink salt, garlic, chipotle, smoked paprika, coriander, onion, cumin and herbs, however the other flavours are outdone by the chipotle (chilli) component. A stronger coriander/cumin flavour would have enhanced this so much. It is still a product that I really like, however I just found the list of ingredients really exciting and wanted to taste all of them in there!

The packaging is fantastic. I cannot fault it. It is stylish and practical, easy to use. This is always out on the bench at dinner time and used regularly to spice up 'boring' mid week dinners. At a first glance, this product seems expensive, however you are getting a grinder and a very unique salt that will go the distance (time wise and flavour wise!) Mrs Rogers is a trusted brand in this house and I would happily buy this and other products in this range.

I have always liked to add a dash of salt on my meals and there are so many options now, but I haven't been brave enough to step away from garlic salts until now.

The first thing I noticed was the size of this bottle, it isn't' a lightweight and whilst it is expensive if you bother comparing it to plain, boring salt, if you compare it to other flavoured and fancy salts, this is a pretty average price. There's only eight ingredients in this salt and all combine well, not to mention they all look rather aesthetically pleasing inside the glass bottle (which luckily in very sturdy because its been knocked off the table multiple times by the kids and my clumsy self).

I decided to put my garlic salt away for a week and only use this salt on my meals, my seven year old was very keen to try it (I did give her warning) and ended up not liking it at all but that left more for me. The salt has been used nine times (my mother joined us twice for dinner) and it looks like it hasn't been used at all, because you really don't need a lot at all. I made roast potatoes, coating them in this salt and ended up with a delish dish for dinner. I had a bacon and eggs croissant and put some both in the croissant and on the eggs that fell out, I found it to be a little hot, just on top of the food, but in with everything else I got little heat but great flavour.

I've managed to work out just the right amount of salt for my liking, it gives me a fab hit of flavour with just a dash of heat. This is going to last a very long time, but I'm enjoying it enough that my garlic salt is just going to have to take turns with this Chipotle salt. Yum.

My husband is a big chili fan and loves hot sauces and spices to be added to our more mundane kid friendly foods. Because we have one very fussy eater at home and another mildly fussy eater, our food can be bland. So after I have dished the kids meals I often bump up the flavour for us adults. He was thrilled when he saw we got a bottle of this chipotle salt.

The bottle for this salt is a great size. This was a welcome surprise. Even at it's price, I thought it was very reasonable and it would certainly last a long time in our house. Not only that, but because the grinder is re-fillable, it gives it even more value in my eyes. I like that the grind style can be adjusted too. The little pamphlet that came with the grinder had some great tips too for keeping your grinder in good working condition.

Because they have used pink salt in the grinder, the mixture inside looks so pretty. You can see all the seeds and spices and the pink crystals. The quality of the ingredients is clear. The only lasting label on the grinder is an embossed "Mrs Rogers" logo. So you can see all around the glass.

The flavour is great. It has the right amount of heat to delicious spice and with the saltiness too. We have been using it in white and cheese sauces. We have been having it in stir fry too. Another thing I tried it in was farmstyle dumplings. So I made a casserole, and into a dumpling mix I added some of this salt. Then I simmered the dumplings in my casserole until they were cooked through. They came out like scones, but they had a good amount of heat to them and they were a nice addition to the meal.

I predict it will be a few months before we exhaust our supply of this product. But it won't be for lack of trying. This has been going into so many of our meals, it has a home right next to my oven!

I am sure if I saw this at a supermarket, my eye would be drawn to this straight away, as the product oozes sophistication. Even before picking it up it just gives off a vibe of being really upper class and it does not disappoint in anyway. I love the way that it is fully adjustable giving you the choice of how you want your salt either coarse or very fine and that the glass is recyclable, although since it is completely refillable I don't think that would ever be an issue.

I have used this spice now in a couple of dishes and I find it really enhances the flavour. The first time was in the weekend where I decided to make some home made hummus for the first time. At first it had way to much peanut butter added to it so I thought adding yoghurt might reduce the taste some, but instead it tasted revolting. After scratching my head and looking thru my spice rack I noted The Smokey Chipotle Salt. I added this to a couple of spoonfuls of the disaster in to another dish and it changed the taste fantastically. After getting my girls and husbands approval I mixed it in with the original hummus and thank goodness it worked and we had something yummy for the carrots and chips to me dipped into.

The next occasion I was rather silly and added it to my nachos. The problem was I brought Salsa Chips and they were rather strong in flavour so could not really taste anything else. I added some to the yoghurt I had topped the meal with but again the salsa was too strong so that was rather uneventful.

Last night I roasted some Chicken and just used this as my coating and it was great. You could pick up the flavour without any hesitation. My husband loves his gravy so he got busy making it up which upset me as it kinda defeated the whole purpose but then he came up with the most amazing suggestion ever to add some of this to the gravy - let me tell you we will be doing this from now on. My goodness it was amazing not only could you taste the chicken flavour but this enhanced it completely and gave it a very yummy additional taste that was a hit with the whole family.

definitely something I recommend. The price is rather steep but when you consider that it is in refillable container and that it can be used in so many dishes the price is more than justified. I am in love with the gravy and will never have gravy again without this added. It adds a whole new level to every dish we have tried (except the nachos but will try again with a plan cheese corn chip next time). A massive winner with the whole family.

There is something about the packaging of this product that really drew my attention - even before tasting it, I knew that it had been designed with certain aesthetic and user-friendly standards in mind. It is comfortable to hold and to use, unlike some slimmer containers that can be a challenge to grip when you are upending them to grind out the contents. This bottle has a robust feel and is much easier to control.

The coarseness of the grind can be set, just by turning a small dial under the lid, and there are refills available which would make the product very cost-effective. There is also a caveat that it should not be added direct to a dish because the rising moisture might make the salt damp, so the lid is designed to be a miniature "plate" - you grind the salt into the lid and then empty it into your dish. It is then a simple matter to ensure the lid is clean and completely dry before replacing it.

Earlier in the day, before I organised the dish I was going to test it on, I ground a little of the salt into my hand just to check that I liked it and that it would be suitable to use with the chowder I had in mind. I sniffed it - the aroma was attractive, not too strong, and reminded me of a mild curry spice mix. I then tasted a little - it was reasonably salty, so I knew not to over-season, but the chipotle and other spices were also evident so it was clear that small quantities would suffice. Chipotle is a derivative of jalapeno peppers which have been dried and smoked (to give it that barbecue effect) and it can be quite hot, but when mixed with salt its heat is disseminated and is not overpowering. The salt also contains other spices in smaller quantities, making the final combination reminiscent of spices commonly used in Indian and Mexican cuisine.

I chose to try it on a mussel chowder which I had purchased fresh in the local market. Chowder (mussel or paua) is available locally each Saturday, and is delicious but often needs a flavour boost, both to bring out the natural taste, and to counteract the richness of the mix. I tasted the chowder both before adding the salt, and again afterwards, so I could measure the difference between the two versions.

My first reaction was that I had not added anything at all to the second tasting, but I did notice that the mussel flavour was more intense and marginally less rich. Then I realised that the salt was doing exactly what it was supposed to do - enhancing and intensifying the natural food flavour without becoming intrusive or, even worse, actually altering the flavour.

Full marks for a well-presented and useful addition to every kitchen. The designer lines and attention to consumer usability make it a product that would blend in well with the most upmarket of designer workspaces but would be equally at home in a suburban kitchen or a country cottage.
