I was so excited to receive this beautiful book amongst my review goodies this time round. The Little Yellow Digger is a hit with the children at my daycare centre who are very much is to trucks, diggers and other modes of transport at the moment as is my daughter who loves to watch the diggers working away in the subdivision over the other side of our fence. The Little Yellow Digger Treasury is a beautiful hard cover book made from embossed linen which has digger tracks on it, it contains all 5 of the books from this NZ series, The Little Yellow Digger, The Little Yellow Digger and the Bones, The Little Yellow Digger Goes to School, The Little Yellow Digger at the Zoo and The Little Yellow Digger Saves the Whale.

As I read through the first story about The Little Yellow Digger, my daughter loved making comparisons about the book and the digger that we see busy working from over our fence talking about the colours being the same and that her digger doesn't get stuck, but if it did she would go over and help it. On each of the pages of this story there is a picture of a dog, which my daughter liked looking for and pointing out to me, she got very excited at the end of the story where the digger managed to get out of the mud, she seemed to know a lot of the words in the book already so I'm thinking this must be read quite often to her at daycare.

Thinking I could get away with reading just one of the stories to Miss 2 that night I was sadly mistaken, she could tell that the book had more pages to go and so she insisted that I kept going so I ended up reading the whole 5 stories out of all of the stories Miss 2 seemed to like the original the best perhaps due to this being familiar to her, she said it was because she liked the people helping the digger. Other than this one she really responded to the story The Little Yellow Digger at the Zoo which I wasn't surprised by as she is animal crazy and we visit the zoo quite often since having a zoo pass, she enjoyed pointing out each of the animals and naming them and thought it was funny that the diggers were pulled out from the mud by the elephants.

My daycare children were very excited to see me pull out a brand spanking new version of one of there favourite books and sat intrigued as I read them some of the different stories in this collection, they particularly liked the stories where The Little Yellow Digger went to the zoo and saved the whale. It so happened that while we were reading the stories a digger went driving through the paddock and ended up stopping at the gate a few of my older 1 year olds went rushing out to the fence and were quite concerned telling me the digger was "stuck". Even though these stories are quite long my 1 to 2 year olds are happy to sit and listen to them all over and over, which shows that they are really good, engaging books.

This is a limited edition book that is dedicated to Alan's memory, which I thought was a very lovely gesture considering the effort and hours he must have put into making such beautiful stories around the diggers. This would make a fantastic birthday or Christmas present for a child, especially those who are crazy about diggers, the price is great value at $29.00 for a set of 3 stories.

I had no prior knowledge of The Little Yellow Digger before seeing this treasury book, and I was not too sure that my girls would be interested. But those worries were easily put aside when Miss 3 grabbed the book from the pile we took on holiday, hugged it to herself and asked me to read it with her. It turns out, that while I didn't know the book she knew the Yellow Digger very well from daycare.

I tried to flip through to the first story, but I was firmly put in my place by Miss 3. She wanted me to start from the start! So I read the introduction aloud to her. I found this really interesting, because it gave you the history of how the first book came about. It was so neat reading about the process and even the reluctance from Alan at the start to illustrate the story. I was sad to read that the treasury is dedicated to Alan's memory though.

As I read the first story in the set, Miss 3 was happy to point out the dogs in the mud. We liked the way bigger and bigger diggers came to try and dig out the rest of the diggers getting stuck in the mud. It wasn't until part way through the stories that my eldest ran to the book and took more notice. She heard the word "dragon" and she had to see the story, she stayed for the zoo story as well. So even though she initially didn't have any interest, she really liked the stories that she shared with us as well.

The presentation of this treasury book is beautiful. It's hardcover has beautiful binding, with digger tracks embossed onto the cover. The yellow of the cover art is striking. The spine has gold embossed font as well. This book is well worth $29, as you get all five of the stories they ever wrote about the Little Yellow Digger in this hardcover. It would be an excellent Christmas present for grandkids or kids, and any child who loves the books or diggers.
