Hassan Kadam (Manish Dayal) is an extraordinarily talented and largely self-taught culinary novice. When he and his family are displaced from their native India and settle in a quaint French village, they decide to open an Indian eatery.

However, Madame Mallory (Helen Mirren), the proprietress of an acclaimed restaurant just 100 feet away, strongly objects.

War erupts between the two establishments, until Mallory recognizes Kadam's impressive epicurean gifts and takes him under her wing.

Reading the synopsis does not do this movie justice. Both my husband and I were going to miss the movie, just because it did not sound exciting but I decided to give it five minutes of my time and I am so glad I did. About half way through I commented how much I was enjoying it and said that I thought that something completely different was going to happen and my husband who had put his book down and was also watching said the same thing.

Its a movie that keeps you guessing and you are not really sure where it is heading. Yes it has the predictability to it and you know who will end up with who, as it is a romantic comedy, in a way, but it has such a great feel to it you are left wanting more. It does slow down in parts but not enough for you to get too bored. It is not exactly racey but done at that perfect speed.

I do not know what I was left wanting more watching this 'French food or Indian'. It definitely gets your craving a delicious foreign meal as it all seems so devine. I did love the fight between Helen Mirren as she took on the Kadam family. The father was hilarious and you never knew what he would say next. It is such a cute quaint movie that everyone should watch. Much better than I was expecting.
