A Day at the Animal Airport is a fun book that is written and illustrated by Sharon Rentta the title of the book catches your attention being so bold, bright and colourful. I read the book with Miss 7 who just loved Kai the koala and his cheeky family, we had so many laughs. She loves the detailed illustrations and we find something new to talk about each time we open the book.

The book is about going on a fun filled family plane trip. I love how the book covers everything that happens from when they first arrive at the airport to when they board the plane. Kai has a wonderful time, using his passport, pushing trolleys, the x-ray machine and flying in a plane! The illustrations are the reality of an airport but put across with enormous humour and with illustrations absolutely crammed with amusing detail. Wonderful illustrations, really, really good, no computer generated pics in sight, just a high quality artist. Every page is packed full of funny detail and entertainment. Very simple story but each page provides an enormous amount to talk about with inquisitive little people.

I thoroughly recommend this book it would be great for children who have never been on a plane before so they could get to know the process and have a laugh while they are at it.

I was drawn to the cover art of this book at first sight. The gorgeous aqua colour of the sky with the yellow of the plane and the word "airport" really popped and made me want to look closer. When I did I noticed that while the sky is matte, the rest of the print is glossy embossed. It looked so neat I wanted to open it up.

I read this with my 3 year old the other night. She was drawn to the cover art as well. But once inside, she just loved the cheeky antics of the koala children. This is all about taking a trip on a plane. It covers everything from packing, to the airport. Thy cover the security aspect and bagging, as well as the actual boarding and being on a plane too.

Miss 3 hasn't been on a plane before, but Miss 8 has been. This book was so funny for me as a parent. As I read, I could not help but remember the difficulty of trying to keep a small child in check at the airport and on a flight. I remember the struggle to keep her occupied and having to keep a tight grip on her through security.

The illustrations in this book are so fun. They are colourful though more muted than on the cover. The layout is sometimes like a comic book, and other times like a huge scene with lots to see and look for. Miss 3 liked being asked to find things on each page and and I could easily use that game for every read through, without doubling on funny things to spot. She is also a huge fan of animals, and doesn't mind animals being the "humans" of the story. Miss 8 sometimes has an issue with that.

This book would be a great gift for a child who is going on a plane trip. I can imagine reading this to prepare them for the experience. It is comprehensive without being scary or confronting. It also made us daydream a little about maybe going on a trip again. Surely that check in process wasn't as awful as I remember?
