This latest Klutz kit Tiny Stitches looked like a great way to entertain my kids on a rainy day. The kit follows the standard Klutz formula of having the crafts and a fully illustrated step by step book on how to do the said craft.

With this kit I got the kids set up sat down and then quickly realised that the kit only has one hoop so only one person can embroider at a time. The kids were happy to take turns so we then moved onto the next step of doing the circles on the cloth provided using the transferable paper. The instructions were a bit confusing and I did a few bits of cloth with one big circle for the hoop and then a smaller circle before realizing three circles were supposed to go on each hoop. Unfortunately there isn't a lot of transfer paper so that limits the ability to do more than x number of transfers. The transfers initially weren't very clear but once we abandoned the provided stylus and used a stencil it became easier.

However by this time the kids had had enough and abandoned me to my own devices declaring it all too tricky. I persevered but must confess that I did find it all a bit confusing and very finicky. I am obviously getting old as I must say I prefer using a bigger hoop to embroider with and this was just a little small and fiddly for me. There are some very cute little "tiny"designs in this book and there were some good examples of how to do different stitches so I enjoyed hat aspect. Overall I think this is appropriate (as stated on the box) for at least ages 10 and up though you need to have nimble fingers so perhaps not the best if you have slightly restricted movement in your fingers.

I would definitely recommend this for someone that enjoys embroidery and wants something a little different but definitely someone with patience.

I love cross stitch along with anything crafty and its a passion I share with my 12 year old niece so when tiny stitches came up for review I was really keen to review it. Its the perfect winter project for me to share with my niece.

I decided to give the kit a try myself first and I'm glad I did cos I don't know if its just me or not but I found the instructions a little confusing to start with. Trying to get the picture on to the fabric took a while but I finally figured it out, though it wasn't quite in the right places so I only got two instead of three to my square. The next time I tried it though I had it right and was able to show my niece how to do it easily.

The stitch instructions were very clear and they even helped me to perfect a couple of stitches I haven't mastered before. Once started my project took no time at all to complete and I soon found myself with an owl necklace. I really like that the necklace frames are interchangeable so you can make as many designs as you like and just slip them in and out.

The book came with lots of awesome designs to copy on to fabric but I felt it needed just a little more of the transfer paper after a few transfers it becomes unusable. I also really liked the fact it has templates for the frame as it means you can create your own design and know it will fit perfectly. Once again Klutz has designed a fun craft kit for all ages you don't have to just be a child to enjoy!
