Review #12660 - Dated: 18th of October, 2014 Author: Cherrycola27 |
Goodnight truck is a fantastic book that we are so glad to have been given the opportunity to review and add to our daughters book collection. At only 13months old she is already in love with books (something we have encouraged since day dot) and will sit through most of this book, turning the pages and pointing to the pictures. With a dad who is a truck driver and works with machinery too we have always been keen to ensure she has a knowledge and perhaps love of these as well. This book is the perfect introduction to this. Obviously not all children this young would be interested or sit through being read most of it but only you can be the judge of that for your child. For us, it is just perfect and I love the fact while she does enjoy it now, this will only continue to grow and she will use this books for many years yet. At the moment for example its a "supervised only" book as we don't want the pages getting ripped by accident!
With beautiful bright pictures the illustrator has does a fantastic job of capturing what trucks, diggers, boats, tractors, and rockets look like while still maintaining a cartoon image. Fun yet educational which I think is really important for children (and their learning). I also think the author has done a wonderful job - simple rhyming is used throughout and on each page there is fun descriptions of what the vehicles can do. There is also lots of repetition and while you say hello to each vehicle and learn a little bit about it, in turn you also say goodnight to each vehicle. I also think the length of writing on each page is just right - its not to long and its not to short - which means the entire book is also just right so it has that perfect balance that you want in a children's book.
All of this meant that when I choose to introduce and read this book to the 50 odd children I teach (aged 2 to 5years old) at mat time - I had a whole heap of eyes n ears listening and looking silently. This alone stands to testify what a great book/read Goodnight Truck really is. This is definitely a book that caters to both boys and girls I feel and is open to quite a large age group too. As the week has worn on I was asked over and over again to read this story, either at mat times or with individual children. It has proved to be one popular book which is great!
All in all, a wonderful book that has been adored by all - also a perfect bedtime story and one that I fully recommend to other families out there ^:)
