While my family weren't swayed either way by this, I found it to me really appealing and tasty. I have always liked the chunkier, most rustic meatloaves - were you can actually see some of the ingredients and they are not only visible, but also identifiable. This meatloaf had some great ingredients, and I could readily spot most of them in the slices.

While way out of my ideal price range, you get what you pay for. Quality products, made by people not by a factory of machines, is always going to cost more. In the same way you wouldn't expect an artisan cheese to cost the same as a bulk of bulk-made cheddar, so too this meatloaf costs more than the mechanically-made pap you can buy for $1.75/100g at the deli serve-over.

The taste was tangy, a little sweet, and quite unusual in a way I found very appealing, and while I am in no way required to eat gluten-free, I was impressed that this was safe for those sensitive to gluten. It's really good to know that GF food is becoming more and more palatable as companies recognise the need and growing requirement in the market, and cater to it not only in terms of quantity, but also quality of foodstuffs they make.

Overall, if you want something really quite unusual, and don't mind paying top coin for it, then this is a product you should really explore - you may not go for it, but I don't think you'll regret it.

I was lucky enough to try the Farmhouse Meatloaf. I have always been keen to find a more flavoursome meat for sandwiches as I am not the greatest fan of ham so was keen to give this a go.

It came vacuum-packed and was very easy to see. I like being able to see the real colour of meat when buying it so this was great packaging for me. You could see the variety of textures and colours in this meatloaf before opening the packet of seven pieces.

I took out a slice and quickly ate this just as it was. Yum! The taste of the capsicum came through very strongly and lingered in my mouth for some time after. Now normally I would just continue to eat something like this straight from the packet (if it is something that I like) however for the purpose of review I thought I better try it in a few different ways.

Next I put it on a sandwich to see if the flavour still came through with lettuce and cheese. You could still taste - however not quite as intense. I think maybe a few slices would of worked better as the bread obviously overtook the flavour (but then again the flavour of ham gets lost in sandwiches too).

I thought by adding a bit of heat to it may change the flavour. I would look at this meatloaf as a special occasion meat in my family (due to price) so thought I would use it like you would bacon around a prune (which I love). I sliced the meatloaf and wrapped around a prune before baking in the oven. Yum! Normally bacon complements sweet things so was a bit hesitant but I loved the taste - sweet inside with a savoury outside. The heat did change the taste a little and the meatloaf did become quite brittle so although tasted great probably not a good use of it.

Overall I was glad that I have tried this product, loved the flavours and texture. I personally would use this product as naturally as I could in future, maybe on a toothpick with a bit of cheese for entertaining. Great for a platter of finger food.

I was lucky enough to be given some of this meatloaf to try and yes it was delicious! It came in a well sealed pack with a reasonable shelf life, and I think there were 6 thin, but generously sized, pieces in the pack (unless hubby sneaked some extra pieces without telling me!). I say generously sized as they easily covered a slice of bread which is always handy when you want a decent sandwich! However I did find that I preferred to use 2 slices for a sandwich as they were so thin.

The meatloaf looked great at first glance - it had little speaks of ingredients in it and it felt like you were eating something of really good quality. I don't normally buy meatloaf from the deli, and this is obviously it is a bit more expensive than every day luncheon or ham, so I treated it more as a treat food and kept it for myself and hubby.

Both myself and my husband enjoyed the taste. It isn't spicy which kept my husband happy but a number of nice mild flavours came through and gave it a great overall taste. I felt it didn't need chutney as it had such good flavour on it's own, but preferred instead to have it on a sandwich with salad, cheese etc. It was also great chopped into small pieces and eaten on crackers - for this I did add a small amount of chilli chutney to enhance it.

Because it is a reasonably small pack, I didn't get to try it further, but I imagine it would make a lovely addition to a salad over summer or to a pizza. I would happily eat this over and over again, and would definitely buy it myself, but as an occasional treat.
