Mark reads at high speed. He pauses at a comma, star jumps at an asterisk and leaps at an exclamation mark. He reads and reads until he reaches, a full stop.

I have never enjoyed English or working out where punctuation's go. But after reading back to front bob with my now 6 year old daughter, I've had to learn a thing or two. At school they are learning all about full spots, commas, and exclamation mark. She tells me all about them, so when it was a chance to read this book I actually jumped at the chance thinking I could help her more and in the process learn a bit more too. Then when my 4 year old starts he can learn with this book too.

Well its so full of so much information we have had to read it a few times to get the understanding of it. The question mark was simple to understand of course. But what got my daughter was the smiley faces you can do via text, this book is really up to the ages when it comes to this, so I had to pull out my phone and show her how to do then adn on the computer too which writing :).

There is a few funny things in there like "lets eat grandma" then it gives the correct way with the punctuation which makes more sense, you will need to read to see. The pictures link well to what is going on and that I love, its a great children book for all ages, I loved it and so does my daughter. What a fun way to learn about something that is actually not an easy subject. I recommended this book highly and they will use it a lot, maybe a 5th birthday present.

English has always been my passion subject. I was an avid reader and writer as a kid, and it was no surprise to anyone that I got a degree in English Literature. Although my grammar often leaves a lot to be desired! I can see other people's faulty grammar everywhere. I am that person silently correcting you.

When I saw this book, I had a quick flip through and noted the pages showing how a lack of comma can kill. So funny and true. I quickly showed my eldest daughter and she was on the floor laughing at the idea of eating Granny. There are various other illustrations of what punctuation means depending on its placement. We loved the explanation of it's various its. Plus we got to have a good conversation about reading it's as it is or it has so we know whether the sentence makes sense or not.

My daughter was absolutely glued to this book as we read it through tonight. The illustrations are quite design focused. Lots on on-trend colours, typography and the like. I actually found it a good change from normal picture books. As an adult I really appreciated the book's look and feel and the message inside is just as important for adults as kids.

The pages about emoticons and texting were really cool as well. It showed that the book was modern and understood that texting and smileys are a part of our everyday written speech now. My daughter loved it because she could then understand all the symbols on my phone that she loves playing around with and how they are made.

Lastly after reading through this, we watched Weird Al's latest music video, "Word Crimes". Best music video to accompany this book. It helped add to and cement many of the lessons from the book. Plus it's relatively kid friendly. We love this book.
