Frozen meals tend to be a bit of a disaster, and rarely loook anything like the pictures on the packaging by the time you drag the sodden mass out of the microwave. But after some not-too-bad meals lately, I thought it would be worth the gamble to try this one. After all, if all else failed, I could nip up the road to the supermarket and buy something else. First thing I noticed when I examined the box was that it clearly and proudly states that though this meal contains dairy, soy and nuts, it does not contain any preservatives or MSG. Big kudos for that. The next thing that caught my eye was, when I removed the plastic tray, it was sealed with a clip-on lid, making it much easier to handle when hot. More good kudos. Following instructions, I popped one corner of the lid and nuked it on high for 5 minutes, let it stand for 2 minutes, then popped the lid right off. What I saw had me a bit worried. A hell of a lot of rice, and chucks of the lamb kebab, but sod-all sauce. Where was the sauce? Answer: all over the microwave floor. When you crack the lid, take this bit of advice... crack it at the RICE end! Anyway, I took what remained of the sauce, and mixed it and the lamb kebab bits in with the rice... time to snarf it down. YUM! The lamb kebab bits tasted more like Choritzo sausage, spicy without too much heat. The Korma sauce was full of flavour, again without excessive heat, and really added something special to the meal. Things that really impressed me: Things that didn't impress me: Overall, a wonderful dish, and I look forward to trying some more of their range. :) |
