Olde Hallows Eve Sunday 27 October 7pm - midnight By The Pricking Of My Thumbs, Something Wicked This Way Comes A presence dark invades the fair, and gives the horses ample scare for chaos reigns and panic numbs, when something wicked this way comes. Fires burn with an eerie glow, something stirs from deep below and by the pricking of my thumbs, something wicked this way comes! Join us if you dare on Sunday 27 October for a Halloween event like no other, where MOTAT will be transformed into a truly thrilling Victorian Olde Hallows Eve. Take a step back in time with a trip to the Victorian Village to see the terrifying Miss Havisham in the Chapel, or to check out the living doll in Willow Cottage. The brave at heart and mad of mind, may come and crash the Madhatter's tea party on the Village lawn or jump aboard the K900 ghost train and head screeching and wailing down the tracks, into the misty unknown. The Victorian Death Photography Studio will snap and frame you and the Band Rotunda will host a darkly beautiful Black Fairy Grotto, with face painting. At Cropper Lawn take a wander through the Gypsy Campsite, but be sure to watch your ears for the Fortune Teller may speak of tales you don't wish to hear. In the 1920s Regent Street, beware of Fagin and his gang of pick pockets with their swift criminal fingers. For those in a morbid mood, visit the Undertaker at the Victorian Funeral Parlour for a sneak peak of life after death. Those who dare can wander through the echoing Discovery Dome, where terrifyingly sinister clowns will test your Coulrophobia. Families can head to the Creepy Children's Courtyard or explore the Mirror Maze of illusions before heading to the carnival with a bright and lively costume parade and performances, playing at the Pumphouse Courtyard on the hour from 8pm. It's not all creep and grime, bring along your Jack O Lantern to go on display in the pumpkin patch and the best dressed Halloweeners will be in to win some great prizes. Tickets are $20* per person or $60* for a family pass (2 adults and up to 4 children). Under 5's are free. Avoid the queues and pre-purchase your tickets online. Parking Tip: Our trams will not be operating on the night, so the best place to park on the night is along Stadium Road or Great North Road. I have always been jealous of America and their Halloween - so when I heard about MOTAT's Victorian Olde Hallows Eve I jumped at the opportunity to get dressed up and walk around with witches, zombies and ghosts. It has to be one of the best events I have ever been to. The atmosphere was electric and everyone enjoyed themselves and the best part is it caters for everyone. Families, Grandparents, Teenagers, Dating Adults, it did not matter everyone had fun. Around two thirds of the people got dressed up in Halloween attire and the people who just wore everyday clothing all regretted not dressing for the occasion. The event happens at MOTAT and every year it is a different theme. This year was Victorian. You walk around MOTAT which is the Museum of Transport & Technology, and every room has some theme to it. Gypsy Campfire, House of Dolls, Fairy Grotto, Haunted House, Ghost Train, Horse Carriage just to name a few. It is up to you where you go and what you do. We took our two year old and four year old and they loved it. Admittedly I was a little worried they would be scared but with the stage show and the children's play ground and children's craft area there was no problem. You could easily just sit there and watch everyone walk past. There are some R13 activities, but if you are not afraid of clowns it really was over rated. The event takes place from 7pm to midnight and once again its up to you how long you stay. We stayed till just after 10.30 and we did miss a lot of the shows. MOTAT is huge. Do take extra money as some activities did require money and there are also food stalls. We got our picture taken and it looks fantastic. Such good value and I did not hear any negative comments the whole time. Everyone was just so happy laughing and enjoying themselves. A really worthwhile event. Definitely returning next year. Hats off to all of the staff they did their roles so perfectly especially the fairies. |
