I always wanted a brother or sister ... but instead I got a crocodile.
A little child longs for a brother or sister, but instead gets a crocodile! It follows them around all
day long, causing terrible trouble at teatime and big bother at bedtime.
But without the crocodile the child is sad. Only the crocodile knows how to be a royal dragon,
or a big, green slide, or a pirate island! The child always wanted a brother or sister but getting a
crocodile is much better!
This heart-warming tale is full of beautiful illustrations that will appeal to all children.

I love the style of type in this book. The text is printed as though typed on a type writer and the illustrations are very appealing but simple. This book would probably be best suited to young pre-schoolers. My Miss Two likes it but not my Miss Five and Miss Six.

The story is aimed at an only child (who could be a boy or girl) who instead of getting a brother or sister gets given a crocodile who he/she can play with. I am assuming the aim of this book is to make only children feel okay and happy to have "a crocodile" instead of siblings? I don't know I just didn't get it.

Compared to other books we have this just doesn't really have a captivating enough storyline or enough content for us to want to read this regularly. Although when I picked it up I thought it would be a good gift for an only child actually I am not sure it would be...(based on there not being too many friendly crocodiles around in my neighbourhood!)

At $19 I wouldn't buy this. Maybe for $5-$10 but this just didn't hit the mark with me.

I got a crocodile is a very sweet book about a child and a crocodile. The child in the book could be either a girl or a boy. The children got into a discussion and some thought it was a boy others a girl. This is very clever as it allows both genders to relate to the character.

The crocodile enters the child's life and causes mayhem. Once the crocodile is told to go away the child realises it was a mistake and misses him. After making peace they become best friends and the crocodile becomes civilised. As an adult I thought the crocodile could have been an imaginary friend especially as the story starts " I always wanted a brother or sister but instead I got a crocodile."

The illustrations are very cute, bold yet pastel. It is like they were screen printed. It is the type of picture that won't date. It would probably appeal more to the younger child but that fits well with the text. There is only a sentence or two on each page. A great book to read when you need a quick bedtime story.

I am pleased to have this book on my bookshelf although it has been most popular with the two and three year olds I care for.
