We were lucky enough to get a package full of books to review and Who's That Roaring was the top of the pile. This arrived this morning, right after the kids had eaten and there was enough time for a quick read of it. My five year old grabbed it, sat down next to his sister while she was having her bottle, and my three year old joined in too.

My kids enjoyed this book and when through it about four times before it was off to school for my oldest. My older two recognized all the animals, and whilst my three year old was happy enough to just sit there and listen, my five year old named all the animals and made the accompanying sound.

Each animal (seven in total) takes a double page. On the left is the animal, in the position one would expect for making their noise and asks you to identify the animal. On the right is a full body shot of the animal with its name and two identifying features.

This is a lovely, simple yet colourful book that all three of my children like.

Jopukeko   Review #8498 - Dated: 20th of May, 2013

My three year old daughter is animal mad so her eyes lit up when she saw Who's That Roaring? When I read the title she knew straight away that Mummy was going to make animal noises while reading it. What child doesn't love an adult making funny sounds? She loves it both when I read it and when she reads it to herself.

The book follow a standard format on each double page (the question, the sound, I am a .... and finally I have ... and .... ) The children get the pattern very quickly and by the second reading were reading along with me. After only a couple of days Miss 3 is now reading most of it by herself. Her sister (Miss 4.5) is learning when to use a or an thanks to the owl and elephant in the book.

The pictures are all photographs with a simple background or no background. There is no confusing about what animal we are talking about on each page except my girls know that what they call a parrot is specifically a macaw. The book is a good solid board book which can be enjoyed by babies as much as my children have.It is an affordable gift for a baby shower or addition to a hamper. There are more books in this series which I am sure will be just as popular with the children.
