Review #8352 - Dated: 5th of May, 2013 Author: flabbergastered |
This book is fantastic and is requested by the children to be read many times a day...the children at my centre love anything to do with crocodiles so this book was right up their alley and when I bought it on to be read at mat time they sat glued to the pictures and even towards the end of the book they started to join in and say the words, 'snap, snap, snappity snap!'
The children also found it very funny that half way through the book the turtle had taken off his shell to collect reeds and the children asked if turtles really do wear underwear underneath their shells!! I have a pet turtle so the following day I bought him today the centre and we checked, but no we couldn't see any underwear under the turtles shell. It was great to see the children so interested and taking notice of the amazing illustrations within the book. With the bright white background on the pages the pictures of the animals within the book really stand out.
With the repeating sentences within the book the children have found it easy to read the story out loud when their teachers read the book, which is great as this is encouraging their emerging verbal skills. The font within the book is easily read by the adult and I like how bold writing is used to emphasise the action words within the book so the reader and children know when the snap snap snappity snap parts come up.
The moral of the story sees the four friends working together to solve the problem of the mean alligator and the children love how they make a swamp monster costume to scare the alligator to teach him a lesson of being mean to them. Quite often while in the playground the children will act out the book and catch each other around the playground calling out 'snap, snap, snappity snap!' it is very cute!
I am glad I bought this book and I think it is worth every penny I paid for it. I hope to found more along this series, if there are more books. I like the style of writing and the pictures/illustrations I think are amazing.
