A book of action stories and poems, Cor Blimey, Mate will thrill the hearts and minds of young and old, with tales about experienced and not so experienced hunters, their dogs, wild pigs, deer, helicopters and guns.

Many of the 18 short stories are based on true events and are told in the language of the hunter, allowing us a glimpse into their lives, beliefs and culture, and demonstrating the loyalty and love they have for their dogs.

crackerjack   Review #4153 - Dated: 2nd of January, 2011
  Author: crackerjack

Done a bit of hunting in my day. I'm no stranger to a bolt action, a backpack, a day's hiking each way, and prey in my scope. But the one thing I have never been brave, or stupid, enough to try is taking on wild pigs by hand - with or without dogs to assist.

This book has some amazing stories in it, some that are obviously being told from the heart, and some that are just typical kiwi anecdotes to be taken with a grain of salt. Strangest of all is to find poetry in here as well, something "typical hard-man kiwi bush blokes" aren't exactly famous for. Never the less, the poems give some amazing insights into the heart and soul of those whose passion, hobby or career revolve around "going bush" and hunting.

Summary: An amazing insight into an otherwise unexpected side of the Bush Blokes, their families and friends, and the lifestyle that goes with it all. The cover proudly claims to be aimed at "Young Hunters", and I think that this book will encourage most, deter some, but provoke thought in all who read it, of any age.
