My rather active sons (10yrs and 2yrs old) found this rather bland, due to it being much more on the quieter side of things than the more modern kids' programs they're used to. However, I found "The Wind in the Willows - Autumn Antics" to be quite a sweet and gentle program, without the usual violence or "baby talk" that seems to an acceptable part of children's programs these days.
Each tale is nice and brief, around 15-20 minutes, which is perfect for young minds that tend to get bored and distracted easily. Gentle, soothing music with a simple story, rich in good family values, makes this the ideal DVD to put on when you're wanting a bit of quiet time to get something done, while the younger family members enjoy a cute program, that, despite being around for so many years, can still capture the attention of many.
The characters are just as loveable now as they were when they were first brought into the world.
Toad - the drama queen of the group of friends, who always seems to be the main character for each episode. He's annoying with the way he whines at every little thing, yet funny because of the way he over-reacts.
Badger - the stern, fatherly type who is forever having to put Toad in his place. If only there were more loyal, reliable "Badger" types out there, the world would be a happier place!
Mole - so sweet and gentle, he's happy to be everyone's friend, and is always willing to give even Toad the benefit of the doubt when Toad has stuffed up yet again.
And last of all... Ratty - strong and sturdy, he is kind of a mixture of Badger and Mole. He can be gruff when it's needed (usually when Toad, or the Weasels are getting into mischief), yet is kind and ready to forgive easily.
These are the sort of friends we should be teaching our kids to find... not the kind who are always ready to "do battle".
Definitely worth adding to the family collection, providing your children enjoy the quieter, slower-paced programs!
