Review #3449 - Dated: 2nd of December, 2009 Author: black-kat |
I have always been fascinated by planes right from when I was a kid and I went to an open day at the local airforce base. Ever since then I have been fascinated by them, and this DVD will give you an insight into 30 of the best aircraft ever made.
While some of the aircraft are quite well known such as the Wellington & Halifax bombers of WWII, and the X-15, there are also some that are not as well known such as the XB-70 Valkyrie which was a prototye for a Supersonic High Altitude Nuclear armed bomber, which was never developed past the prototype stage.
One particular aircraft of note that is mentioned in the beginning is the de Havilland DH.88 racing Comet from 1938 which won the air race from London to Melbourne. Other aircraft of note are the likes of the Lancaster Heavy Bomber, and of course the very first Boeing Jet airliner the Boeing 707-80.
Then there were the not so well known ones like the Vickers Valiant or the B-36 "Peacemaker". I think my personal favourite has to be the XB-70 Valkyrie as it is such a beautiful and yet menacing looking aircraft all at the same time.
And to wrap it all up what documentary about aircraft wouldn't be complete with out the ultimate of aircraft, the Space Shuttle Enterprise, which surprisingly never actually went into space as it was designed as a testing platform for the gliding aerodynamics and has only ever flown by being "dropped" from the back of a boeing 747.
