To the boy called Red, it seems the most marvellous escape he could wish for: a gift that grants him more freedom than he ever believed possible - the chance to fly, to soar with the gulls, high over the tall brick walls that have imprisoned him for so long.

But this gift comes with a terrible price - and puts him in grave danger.

Is there anyone Red can trust to help him? The curious Captain Bass who has strange powers of his own? The wildly unpredictable twin sisters he is strongly drawn to?

In this magical, mysterious story, Red's adventure is like a chamber of mirrors at a carnival - a dazzling and breathtaking tale.

This book was wonderful. At first i wondered what kind of a name is "Loblolly Boy", but after finishing this book the name seems to suit the book really well.

I would recommend the reading age for this to be 8 to 14 years. This is simply for the reason that there is mystery and magic throughout the book. I realise i am *slightly* older than the target range; however this book had me entranced. Once i started it i HAD to finish it.

A boy called Red gets more than what he bargained for when he meets a Loblolly Boy. This Loblolly Boy doesn't like being a Loblolly Boy anymore, so he seeks a person to exchange with. In comes Red, a sad little boy who hates living at the Great House. He is what we call a sensitive, someone who can see Loblolly Boys, not everyone can see them. Once Loblolly Boy has gained Red's trust, he tricks him in to learning to fly. Once Red is successfully flying he instantly becomes the Loblolly Boy, and the Loblolly boy that was, is now Red.

The new Loblolly Boy finds a man named Captain Bass. He has the knowledge and the wisdom to help him begin his new life. His new life is wonderful, well, was wonderful. He loves flying, loves being invisible, but there was one problem. If he was invisible, how could he talk to people? When would he eat again?

The Loblolly boy goes on many journeys. From finding Captain Bass, to finding his family, and finally becoming Red again. Not until after he's exchanged twice (once into a girl even!), been captured from a collector, eaten fish and chips and of course sent a school teacher nutty! He sent her around the twist to begin with, but his sister Suzy, completely finished her off and she needed hospital treatment!

There are laughs and ooohhhhs and ahhhhhs throughout the book, and it wouldn't surprise me if this is the first book in a series. Because there is more than one Loblolly Boy in the world.
