I have several of the Dream Baby Secure-a-Lock in my house. I do homebased childcare as well as having two preschoolers of my own. The secure-a-lock is a real sanity saver.

It is great where ever there are two cupboard handles close together as It loops over both handles. It is easy for adults to use (once you have done it a couple of times) but none of the preschoolers have managed to get into a cupboard with one on it.

In my home I have one on my liquor cabinet and another on the cupboard under the sink where the detergent and other cleaning products are. When I was a teacher I had them in the classroom not for safety but to save the children from getting into the art supplies, making a huge mess and wasting paper.

I like that these are portable so you can take them with you if you are staying at someone else's home or a motel. They also are easily removed without leaving a trace so landlords (or in my case school principals) won't get annoyed with you for damaging the cupboards.

With a toddler or five in the house most weekends when family comes to visit it was pretty important for me to kid-proof the house pretty quick if I wanted to have any glasses or plates left intact.
When I heard I could test a range of child-proofing gear I was over the moon. So on to the tests.
I set up the house with all the gear and invited the whanau around for a bit of a feed and let the kids go nuts. After about 6 hours they all headed off home, and I was left to tidy up the dishes and total up the damage. It wasn't half as bad as I thought.
Talking just about this product is easy. It worked to a high degree but had a serious issue. I slapped it on two cupboard door D-handles that contained goodies the kids knew were there, but knew they werent allowed to have without permission. Never stopped them sneaking a few when no adults were looking before.
Discovery was made about 5 hours into the test that an adult going after a packet of biscuits hadnt been paying attention and had yanked open the cupboard while looking aside talking to another family member. Being a bit of a burly lad he managed to snap it in half! Nearly tore one of the handles off too.
Now that aside this actually stood up well to the child-sized abuse. None of the younger kids were able to get the cupboards open despite the known treasures lurking inside. The toddlers who are always opening any door no matter what lurks inside let us know how effective this catch was. Loudly. Constantly.
Its not the most expensive safety catch on the market and it sure wont stand up to a distracted adult yanking on it but it sure was great against the younger kids.
