I love using my pasta express, best product I've purchased for my kitchen. I found that some types of pasta require a second lot of boiling water but this is no problem, just drain and re fill - easy. I still have the whole stove top to use for the important sauce making process and dont have to worry about the steaming hot pot of pasta that needs checked alot.
We love pasta so we have tried fresh home made pasta, this cooks perfectly and the store bought dried pasta requires extra cooking time. I also discovered that I can cook other things in it as well eg.... Vegetables - fresh or frozen or Stewed fruit - add some sugar and leave till cool. I have also found it useful for storing spaghetti noodles in when it's not in use.
I recommend the Pasta Express to all who love pasta and to the "think outside the box" people like myself, who will find many uses for an excellent product.
I have been a pasta fanatic, particularly of Spag Bol, since as far back as I can recall, sowhen it comes to ways and means to cook pasta, I know a little of what I speak. My usual method includes rinsing in lightly salted water, a specific cooking temperature and time, and after it is drained, the addition of some special ingredients.
Because of this, I wasn't entirely sure how to deal with a device that doesn't boil the pasta, doesn't steam it, but just kinda poaches it until it has reached al dente. However, I followed the directions to the letter and gave it a whirl...
After 15 minutes, I popped the inner lid, exposing the draining grille moulded into the main lid, and tipped out the now-lukewarm water. This was my first warning sign that something hadn't gone quite to plan... After 30 seconds of shake-&-drain, I popped off the main lid and decanted the limp spag... and found it to be still partially uncooked!
So, a little worried, I popped it all back in and filled it with another dose of boiling water then capped it off again to sit and do it's thing once more. 10 minutes later I drained and decanted perfectly cooked spaghetti, to be topped by one of my special meaty bolognaise sauces and a generous dose of parmesan cheese and a small handful of grated edam cheese. I found the Thermal Wrap to be quite effective, reducing the heat to something quite bearable, and giving me an excellent grip on the unit.
Overall, the taste-test proved that this unit was quite capable of cooking spaghetti, but in a home environment one would be far better off using it simply as storage, and leaving the cooking for the stovetop and pot. However... where this unit would really come into it's best would be where there isn't a handy stovetop, such as a camping trip, where there may only be a pot or 'billy' to heat water, yet isn't big enough or suitable for boiling the pasta within itself.
