Horrified product reviews

The stakes have been raised. Imagine living in a place so wretched that it's not plagued by one, two, or even three monsters â" but seven of the most horrifying fiends!

In this game, you'll come face to face with them all as you work together to rid the town of the maniacal or misunderstood creaturesâ¦before it's too late.

Horrified includes high-quality sculpted miniatures (Frankenstein, The Bride of Frankenstein, The Wolf Man, Dracula, The Mummy, The Invisible Man, Creature from the Black Lagoon). Its innovative, easy-to-learn, cooperative gameplay has players working together against the monsters with varying levels of difficulty. Just as each monster is unique, they require different strategies and tactics to be defeated.

The Stakes Have Been Raised... I had heard good things about this game and seen it suggested to many a new player in the board game world, and when I was able to get a VERY good deal on some games, I grabbed myself a copy for home. Horrified is an homage to the old Universal Studios monsters, the classics, the well known and well loved creatures that haunted our screens. The stage is set, right from the start, when opening the box there is a message on the game board to play at your own risk... The board itself opens up as an old village, complete with camp, church, lagoon, laboratory and so on. You then select between two to five of the monsters you wish you attempt to defeat, with every monster having a different criteria for its defeat.

Each player takes their turn to move from place to place in the village, pick up tokens, attack a monster and even grab a villager to tag along for the ride and attempt to get them to their safe place (for which you get a card that can prove very useful). The character you play as will have a set number of actions they can take per turn, ranging from 4 - 6, and most also have a special ability they can use as an action. This is a game where it does help to be vocal about what you have, where you're going etc. The feel of this game is great, everything fits with the old horror film vibe, my only disappointment is that the monsters are mono colour, I would have loved them to have been painted for more detail. I've played this three times with a friend of mine and we were finally able to defeat both monsters on our last game. There is an element of luck, as the tokens that get drawn out can vastly affect your play.

I really enjoy this game, from the old school film vibe to how even three games with the same two monsters were vastly different, I'm looking forward to trying out some of the other monsters and trying to see if we can win the day.

"I like to pick up hitchhikers. When they get in the car I say, "Put on your seat belt. I want to try something. I saw it once in a cartoon, but I think I can do it."
