Gravity is the Thing product reviews

Abigail Sorensen has spent her life trying to unwrap the events of 1990.

It was the year she started receiving random chapters from a self-help book called The Guidebook in the post. It was also the year Robert, her brother, disappeared on the eve of her sixteenth birthday. She believes the absurdity of The Guidebook and the mystery of her brother's disappearance must be connected.

Now thirty-five, owner of The Happiness Cafe and mother of four-year-old Oscar, Abigail has been invited to learn the truth behind The Guidebook at an all-expenses-paid retreat. What she finds will be unexpected, life-affirming, and heartbreaking.

A story with extraordinary heart, warmth and wisdom.

I requested Gravity is the Thing from KIWIreviews based solely on the blurb, having never heard or read any of Jaclyn Moriarty's books before, but after receiving it realised that she has a lot of books that I have put on my reading list to read in fact, so clearly something about her writing attracts me!!

This story is a a happy and yet heart breaking tale all at once. It centres around Abigail who is a single Mum to a five year old, who has definitely not had it easy. She has had her parents get divorced, a family member (her brother) disappear when she was a teenager, and the relationship with her son's father fail, add to this the weird delivery, since she 16 of receiving chapters froma self help type book called "The Guidebook", and now - in her mid-ish 30's she receives an invite to a retreat for The Guidebook, all expenses paid to learn its truth.

She decides to go as she wants to figure if the book and her brothers disappearance are related - but finds so much more than answer to that one question! I do not want to go too much into the story line as it would give it all away, but surfice to say this book really is worth reading! Jaclyn Moriarty writes so well, I really felt as if I was part of the story, and along the way grew to really feel for Abigail, and even got little snippets of "The Guidebook" too. A few times I found myself thinking - where is this part going, is there a point? to then find on the next page or so that it all made sense. As well as this was the humour - I had a good giggle at some bits! The key thing that made me like this book was the fact that the theme of life, and how you think you have control but really you are along for the ride is central and so true to my own life at times!

I will re-read this book - I think it is worth another read, as it really has a lot of ideas and themes in it that will be relevant I think, at different times. I would absolutely recommend Gravity is the Thing to people to read - particularly those that like chick-lit, little bit of romance, some laughs and some reflections into your self along the way.
