Zarnus is gone, returned to the Earth. Larman-Dol is presumed dead, buried alive by the released Earth Shinto. Tane's revolt in Shevilian, with the aid of Sajha, Masio and Vardis, has overthrown the rule of Latasin, the demented son of the deposed House Basimi Governor. The tale of Tane, First Hunter, and Sajha, renegade Shinto Mage from the Great Houses, continues in this award-winning sequel to First Hunter.

Once again Dale Elvy has presented us with a classic tale, the second in the Spirit Shinto trilogy. After reading this I was again reminded that New Zealand has talented authors coming to the fore all the time, and it is with great pleasure I opened the courier parcel to find this wee gem as a gift from the author himself.

With magic abounding, adventure and excitement, and most impressive of all, a tantilising storyline that weaves together every page, Spirit City is a wonderful read that will have you wanting to read it non-stop. I would happily rate this book a 9/10. The characters are strong and detailed, with thought-provoking issues they must resolve, challenges to overcome and feelings to cope with. The storyline has continuity and yet still contains that dynamic element which allows for the "what's coming next" feeling that keeps the reader hooked.

If you have read First hunter, you'll find Spirit City an excellent follow on. If you haven't, you're missing a great read. Good one Dale, you've done it again. I look forward to the third book in the Spirit Shinto trilogy, Dark Shinto. It is sure to be another worthy successor.
