Working in the IT industry I often have occasions where screws to HDD caddies or laptops get burred and generally unscrewable, until now that is.

Up until now I have been having to come up with various ingenious methods to get the screws undone without general destruction ensuing, however that generally doesn't occur, but with these that problem is a thing of the past. The design whilst simplistic is also the best feature and makes using them very easy, generally successful at each first attempt.

These make for great time savings and that is something I am definitely into.

Amazingly easy and versatile to use, these are the lifesaver of all of us who yearn to be DIY Godlings, but usually end up being wannabe's.

It's all too easy, when trying to remove old, rusty or paint-covered screws, to either pickj the wrong sized screwdriver, or simple not apply enough 'push' to get the driver fully seated. That's when you end up stripping the head of the screw. That's where these beauties come into play.

Stick the appropriate bit in your drill, set for reverse, apply a bit of pressure and spin -S-L-O-W-L-Y- to avoid simply tearing the head away in strips. If done correctly, your obstinate screw will unwind for you as easily as it first went in... or even easier!

So far, with over 30 attempts, I have only failed to extract a single screw... and that was so badly rusted I am not sure it was even intact in place... I suspect it had rusted clean through, since the remaining portion showed no shear marks, just rust.

Overall, a lifesaver to be sure... and a great way to refurbish old furntiure, or undo your mistakes, without excessive harm to the wood or metal into which the offender was screwed. Wink Icon The milling bit is also a great boon, especially when working with thinner amterials, such as those suitable for the Exakt Saw.

Where are those jammed screws when you need to test out a screw extractor? Never mind, I just had to make do with what I could find - mostly screws on door hinges just for the sheer sake of finding a screw to un-jamb. I now need to go and buy some screws to re-hang all the doors before my wife gets home from holiday. But never mind, it was worth it and it was in the name of reviews and I do get to experiment further with the universal screwdriver!

The screw extractor set comes with three different sizes as well as a bonus universal milling bit, of which, I have not had a chance to try yet - but as this is a bonus tool, I will concentrate on the main course.

The bits are very simple to use and they fit in standard drill chucks, and apparently work in manual drill (not that I have one to try). Wind the chuck tight, put it in reverse and apply to the stuck screw. A few turns and the head bites with the screw and it unwinds quite easily.

Whilst admittedly it is not something you will be using every day, or even every week. Such things are extremely useful to keep to hand for those times when you really do need to use it - and for that purpose alone I can highly commend it.
