SOOOO.... The logitech touch mousepad is a sexy little number, smooth to touch & looks great. The touchpad is basically a reinvention of the mouse. Designed for Windows 8 its purpose is to make fast fluid scrolling through web pages, easy access to Windows8 shortcuts and from what I assume a nice transition from tablets and touchscreens to computer desktops. So after throwing away my standard boring looking mouse I committed myself to the touchpad using it on a daily basis through my heavily intense computer usage for a good solid couple of weeks. I love its ease of use in Windows 8, the touch pad really comes into is own when being used on this platform, quick fluid movements makes the mouse feel like an awkward fumbling teenager heading for second base however the novelty of the device is quickly worn out though. The touchpad easily manages all the difficult maneuvering, pinch zoom and accuracy of touch. But its the basic actions that a mouse does that makes this touchpad frustrating. Simple actions like highlighting text was a frustrating act, and after putting it down to adjustment, decided to keep soldiering on, two weeks later it was still frustrating and I hadn't mastered it and what was normally a second job of highlighting certain sections in a word document took quite a few minutes. Not good for someone like me who constantly lives on a deadline and every second counts. My next gripe was again a basic one, moving my browsers/explorer around my screen to suit. While the touchpad allows you to move your browsers to a pre-arranged setting, its not the setting I wanted and what is normally a one-hand movement with your mouse became a two-hand action..which in my mind defeats the purpose of reinventing the mouse. My last moan is it's not true plug and play. A product that cannot Download its own drivers, annoys me. I want to be able to use instantly not wait for downloads and then shock horror reset my computer WHAT! So while I like the look, love the feel and it use in windows 8, its application in real life work situations which incorporates documents, not just internet or searching through apps I find has been seriously overlooked. If it could only just get the basics right like drop and drag and highlighting it would be a real winner. |
